Historical figures will be brought to life in this lively discussion with historian and broadcaster David McCullagh, author of De Valera: Rule (1932-1975) Volume 2 (Gill Books), and Fergus O’Farrell, author of Cathal Brugha (UCD Press).

David McCullagh offers us balanced and well-researched accounts of Eamon de Valera in his efforts after the Irish War of Independence, in this sequel following on from De Valera: Rise (1882-1932) (Gill Books).

Similarly, Fergus O’Farrell’s extensive research gives us a unique insight into Cathal Brugha’s complex attitude towards violence in the Irish War of Independence. Fergus has recently published the first English-language biography of Cathal Brugha with UCD Press, and his writing has appeared in The Irish Times, the London School of Economics Review of Books and History Ireland.

Join us for this lively discussion chaired by History Ireland‘s Tommy Graham.
