GILLIAN PERDUE lives in Dublin where she works as a writer, dance teacher, chauffeur of teenage children and dog-walker. Gillian’s fi rst book Adam’s Starling won the Eilis Dillon Memorial Award in 2001. Since then, she has written three books in the O’Brien Panda series.

DR JEAN FLITCROFT started work as a script writer for medical and scientific films and later became a travel writer. She is the author of The Cryptid Files: Loch Ness, the first book in a series. The Cryptid Files 2: Mexican Devil will be published by Little Island in May 2011.

DON CONROY is best known to the young people of Ireland for his appearances as Uncle Don to Dustin, Socky and Zig & Zag on RTÉ’s The Den, Don has also had his own TV series Paint for Fun and The Art of Don. Don is the author of many books for children and young adults.

OISÍN McGANN grew up in Dublin and Drogheda. After leaving art college, he went on to work in London doing illustration, design, film animation and advertising. He has published 21 books for children and young adults, and now lives back in Ireland, working full time as an author and illustrator.
THE ART OF COMIC BOOKS WITH GERRY HUNT

GERRY HUNT is a qualified architect. Having taken early retirement, he began work on comic books, which mainly focus on his native Dublin. He published four comics before publishing his fi rst graphic novel, Blood Upon The Rose (O’Brien Press). He is currently working on his second graphic novel.

GABRIEL FITZMAURICE was principal of a primary school until his retirement in 2010 and is the author of more than thirty books, including collections of poetry in English and Irish. His books of verse for children have become classics. Gabriel frequently broadcasts on radio and television on education and the arts.

YOUNG ADULT WRITING COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED
We would like to thank all of those who submitted their stories to the Dublin Book Festival Writing Competition. We had a huge response with over 300 submissions and were delighted and impressed with the high standard from all entrants. The winners have been selected and were contacted on Friday, 18th February and will be partaking in the Creative Writing Workshop with Roddy Doyle this Saturday 26th February.
For those of you not selected we would like to thank you for entering and encourage you to keep writing, for your work will only improve, the plots will thicken and you will have another story for next years competition! Well done for taking the time to sit down and write your story which we thoroughly enjoyed reading!

NEW WRITING COMPETITION FOR YOUNG WRITERS
We are delighted to announce a new writing competition for young writers aged between 12 and 14. Budding authors are being asked to write and submit a story between 500 and 1000 words in length for the chance to win a creative writing workshop with Booker Prize Winner Roddy Doyle.
The story must be submitted by 11 February and judges will pick the eight winners to attend the workshop on 26 February 2011.
Roddy Doyle is one of Ireland’s most celebrate writers. His novels include The Commitments, The Snapper, The Van (which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize), Paddy Clarke, Ha Ha Ha (which won the 1993 Booker Prize; The Woman Who Walked Into Doors, A Star Called Henry, Oh, Play that Thing and Paula Spencer. His books for children are The Giggler Treatment, Rover Saves Christmas, The Meanwhile Adventures and Wilderness.
Entries for the Young Adult Writing Competition should be between 500 and 1000 words and can be on any topic. Stories should be submitted to the following address before 11 February:
